— It’s not the only place where the Pittsburgh Pirates are getting ready for the 2019 season.
The Pirates are planning on opening their new facility, which will be in Harrisport, Pa., next year, a source with knowledge of the plans told FoxSports.com.
The facility, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ new training facility in Harrisburg, has been in the works for about three years and is expected to open next year.
The project was originally supposed to be completed by early 2019 but construction delays forced the completion of the $3.3 billion project in March.
A new facility in Harpsburg is scheduled to be open in late 2019, while the Pirates’ current facility in Pittsburgh will be ready in 2020.
The construction project, which was completed in time for the All-Star break in 2019, is expected not only to help with the Pirates and their fans, but also boost the team’s international image.
It’s been more than three years since the Pirates signed a new deal with MLB, which saw the team become a global franchise, according to team President Kevin Mather.
In 2018, the Pirates had a record-setting winning percentage of 55 percent, which ranks them in the top 10 teams in the National League.
They won the NL Central title.
In 2019, the team is expected do better than that.
In 2017, the Bucs won the National Association of Professional Baseball’s Central Division, while they finished second in the NL East Division.
In 2016, the club was the only NL team to win the World Series.
